On our farm, Aloe Vera grows very well in the warm Jamaican climate. It is one of those plants that requires patience, especially during dry periods, but once established it becomes a strong and hardy plant. We carefully grow, harvest, and process our Aloe Vera by hand before drying it naturally and turning it into Aloe Vera powder, which we offer through Island Herbs and Spices.
One of the things we enjoy most about growing Aloe Vera is how versatile the plant is. Visitors to our farm are often surprised to learn that Aloe Vera is used for much more than skincare. In traditional Jamaican herbal practices, Aloe Vera has long been valued for digestive support, skin care, scalp care, and general wellness.
Traditional and Medicinal Uses of Aloe Vera
- Traditionally used to support cleansing of the digestive system
- Commonly used as a natural herbal laxative for bowel regularity
- Used to soothe irritated skin, sunburn, and insect bites
- Often applied to burns for its cooling and soothing effect
- Traditionally used in natural hair and scalp care remedies
- Commonly used to help moisturize and refresh the skin
- Used in homemade herbal preparations throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean
Growing Aloe Vera on our farm has also taught us the importance of preserving traditional Jamaican herbal knowledge. Many of the older people in our community used Aloe Vera regularly and passed down different herbal uses from generation to generation. Today, we continue that tradition by carefully cultivating the plant and making it available to customers who appreciate natural Jamaican herbal products.
Our dried Aloe Vera powder is processed with care to help maintain the natural qualities of the plant. We are proud to offer products grown directly on our organic farm and to share a small part of Jamaica’s rich herbal heritage with people around the world.
As with all herbal products, Aloe Vera should be used responsibly, and individuals with medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before internal use.
