Salmonella is also sensitive to the extracts of the inion bulbs and they can be used as remedies for both treatment and prevention of the infection.

Staphylococcus aureas is a gram positive rod shaped bacteria. It is a member of the Firmicates. It is common in the nose, skin, and the respiratory system. Infections by this organism can cause pneumonia, food poising, septicemia and toxic shock syndrome. Methanol and aqueous solutions of dried onions show an inhibitory effect against this organism. The bioactive constituents of the onion that are active against the S. Aureas are derived from the bulb.

The alkenyl cysteine sulphoxides from onions have a wide range of health benefits including, anti-carcinogenic properties, antiplatelet activity, anti-asthmatic and antithrombotic effects.

It also facilitates building strong bones and it is protective against inflammation which is a process in several disease processes and infection.
